Use Ackbar’s Real Fleet Tactics in Empire at War: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=197nAamnwuw On today’s Battle Breakdown we cover the Battle of Ciutric …
There's a serious flaw in the Interdictor's field. The cone you drew shows that a ship could possibly be pulled out of Hyperspace only to ram into the Interdictor itself.
The Interdictor hijinks in Legends were always glorious, similar with the tractor beam dodging. It just shows how innovative writers were about technology present in story and they gave it new spin to open new venues. You don't have to dismiss old rules set by other sources, but expand on what was already built.
So what would happen if… Thrawn and Ackbar were on the same side, co-commanding a pair of fleets with as much communication between the two as is necessary (if not outright putting both of them on the same flagship)?
Kind of wonder if this is really a good maneuver. Seems like triggering a fail-safe to forcefully rip a ship out of hyperspace could have all sorts of negative consequences that could cause the whole thing to backfire.
I'm starting to see the pattern to Ackbar. First he learns from Tarkin, now Thrawn. He's not the best at innovating new tactics, but he's good at picking other people's stuff up and using it in new ways.
Such a creative work around to not having an interdictor! Is it just me or are the tactics used in the Galactic Civil War(mostly Legends Post-Endor) far more clever and cunning then those seen during the days of the Republic, in the Clone Wars for example. Don't get me wrong, there are neat little strategies and tactics used by the Republic and CIS that are really fascinating but nothing quite as unique as the Thrawn Pincer or the Ackbar Slash.
#askeck – I’ve had this question for a minute and I was wondering if you could give your thoughts. In Star Wars Rebels Admiral Thrawn conducts an orbital bombardment of the Rebel base, in which we see multiple ISD’s utilizing their main batteries. Now, just a single blast of these turbolaser batteries is very often quoted to have a destructive yield greater than the megaton range in Star Wars circles. And yet, in Star Wars Rebels, we see Kaanan speeding through the bombardment on a speeder bike, and the bombardment appears to be much closer in destructive yield to a conventional artillery barrage. Obviously, if turbolasers were even very conservatively carrying megaton yield effects, one shot would have put Kaanan and a 10 mile radius up in irradiated smoke. So just as a thought experiment, if we took this scene as a canonical example of turbolaser power…how would that prompt us to rethink everything about space combat in Star Wars? Just feel like this is an interesting case study.
Bonus cool video on how to build and manage fleets like Admiral Ackbar: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=197nAamnwuw
Love Eck!
Thrawn: He copied my whole fuckin flow! Word for word, bar for bar!
Ackbar, “Thrawn you magnificent bastard I READ YOUR BOOK!”
When is the first time thrawn used his pincer move
2:13
“The real Isard actually was still alive, despite being dead”
Wait… what?
WOW
are you just pathetic
a fake admiral used another fake admirals stuff to win a fake a battle
you REALLY need to get a fing life
“The actual isard was still alive despite being dead” might need to clarify that bit
It’s been almost 3 years since the last Jedi, and I still feel sad when I remember how Rian Johnson killed admiral Akbar
The best lessons of war are taught from the opposition, in Star Wars and in real life
Not a LotF fan
Rip Mara
More a FotJ fan
Who lit the damn candle tho?
Oh wow, actually landed an AskEck question
Imitation is the greatest form of flattery
I like how most popular characters in star wars aren't even human. Ahsoka, Thrawn, and Hera just to name a few.
Weirdly the new republic flexing its imperialistic muscles.
"Rommel, you magnificent bastard I READ YOUR BOOK!"
I can’t believe they killed ackbar in tlj, he was built up so much by fans in legends he deserved better
Ackbar should've been the one to do that light-speed maneuver in The Last Jedi.
Ackbar said: “Issa trap.”
#askeck Did the Empire use indoctrination and conditioning programs like The First Order on its "recruits?"
Just finished that book a month ago. Great read. Second best of the X-wing series.
2:13 "The real Isard actually was still alive despite being dead…"
Star Wars Legends in a nutshell lol

Excuse me?

I would not have put the fish head in charge of a shuttle let alone a fleet god damn aliens
i love your outtro
What is the best Star Wars legends book
Fun question my friend asked me. Do you think a Siren (Like Lilith, Maya, or Amara from Borderlands) could take on a Jedi?
Fantastic strategy
I wonder hiw his kid is
The books pronounce this planet as 'see-YOO-trick'.
With this move Ackbar somewhat decreased the enemys advantage of an interdictor cruiser.

Just finished rereading Isard's Revenge, such a fantastic series
That was brilliant!
Imagine what Ackbar and Thrawn could have done if they worked together… perhaps for a common enemy from the outer rim. 🙂

Alternate title: Ackbar uses Thrawn's Cute Tricks at Cutric
This video came out the day after I finished The Last Command, perfect timing.
#AskEck
Any particular reason why Wedge's X-Wing sensors don't pick up the DS2's shields in ROTJ?
It’s really fun to see you doing battle breakdowns, it’s so immersive.

these smaller scale battles are fascinating
what do you use to create these battle break down videos??
I really hope Legends comes back.
Awesome to see another battle breakdown.
Ackbar executed Thrawns strategy really well here.

P.S. I'd actually love if you did a whole video analyzing this!
