it's really strange to actually hear modern(ish) jet fighters fighting and firing missiles. you hear a ton of WWII air sounds, but not so much jet fighters. or at least i don't. or haven't, till now.

dead winds, faulty wiring, damaged turbo-chargers, torpedoes just flat out 'disappearing' . . . this entire conflict reads more like a wacky slapstick comedy of terrible, malfunctioning technology.

. . . . . except for the 350 or so drowned Argentinian sailors. RIP. not a joke. terrible way to go, drowning. terrible.

i love how the Brits actually named one of their super-sleek, totally lethal "Hunter Killer" nuclear submarines the HMS Conqueror. THAT'S because the Brits are harder than wurtzite boron.

or were, anyway. i doubt there'd be any of that hilariously Imperialist naming these days. and that's a good thing, of course. Imperialism is not good.

still, though . . . one does (sort of) pine a bit for the days when Men were Men and things were much simpler (and rougher and sexist and far more exclusionary).

      . . . . SORT of.

Just imagine how that war would have changed if those Argentina Skyhawks were able to takeoff or if one of those torpedo’s from the Argentine submarine hit the British carrier successfully or if they know of their torpedo malfunction

I was in the NZ Army back in the 90's when a lot of retired British SNCO's came down south to share their skills and knowledge with us. They had all served in the Falklands and were, to a man, bloody top blokes…very good at propping up bars 😉

It has always a problem when carriers cannot have first rate fighter aircraft on board. The US carriers had the f18 tomcat which could easily take out any thing the Argentinans had.

Those Argentine A-4 pilots had balls. They pressed home their attacks against heavily armed ships and got hits.

I've read quite a lot about the Falklands conflict, but I know nothing about the exploits of ARA San Luis. Worth a dig I suppose.

Such a pity the Argentinian navy wasnt actually battle ready and well equiped with the right sort of weaponry and ordenance. Also a pity that they havent got some allies to support them. Its time that some country show the vulturistic Brittains that they have to stop their intimadating and dominidating attitude. They still own the South African Afrikaner nation an apology for murdering more than 26500 women and children in the concentration camps in the early 20th century.

Imo the British should have gotten out of that hemisphere a long time ago it has no bizznezz there. Its 12000km away from Falkland Isle and Argentina is only 1500km. That island is rightfully Argentina possession. So to the British there I simply say GTFO

You forgot to mention the HMS Sheffield and HMS Coventry two British destroyers plus, two frigates HMS Ardent and HMS Antelope, plus a merchant ship SS Atlantic Conveyor that was used by the British navy for supplies, plus HMS Sir Galahad a general purpose hip, all of them lost in addition to 255 British sailors lost their lives because the senile Margaret Thatcher wanted to show she is capable like any man , leaders who act recklessly should face criminal charges.

I was onboard the Karel Doorman when she was still Dutch, for a visit when I was 18. Very impressive, even for a small carrier!

Come on. Get real. The UK limited its efforts. This was not a war. It was a limited conflict by the UK. The UK could have bombed the Argentine mainland.

This is what happens to your military, when you have liberals running the government. They wouldn’t have won without help from the U.S. I also wonder how much help we gave them under the table.

Amazing how people here, including Argentinians, don't even know that Argentina had a carrier (in fact, they had two but one was already retired). They probably don't know that Brazil also had a very similar carrier during that period (the Minas Gerais, a class Colossus British carrier).
