I and a friend (from Australia) were in Newport RI for the 1983 America’s Cup Yacht Race. We went to a party one night. Someone called the cops because we were ‘too noisy’. Two cops, a black and a white showed up. We couldn’t get a word in. They told us to shut up every time we tried to talk. Couldn’t believe it. They arrested my friend because being a bit tipsy, he gave them a bit of cheek. I had to bail him out next day in court. Totally unnecessary aggression. This may be because they have to deal with more violent people in your country, I don’t know, but it was really irritating.
