Oil Spills are those incidents when oil leaks or spills in the sea /river / oceanic Regions. This happens due to extreme oil exploration and carrying oils with ships which can carry crores of tons of oil . As per Natural Ecology oil is not a part of habitat and fruitful to survival of species. Oil spills result in loss of direct contact with atmosphere. As we are aware that marine ecosystems require intermixing of atmospheric air with water.ex – gills in fishes helps them to consume oxygen available in water. If the contract is lost then automatically there will be huge changes in BOD & COD . Other aspects are fuel oils are inflammable in Nature when a living organism comes in contact with this this causes skil burns , rashes etc. Marine animals are very much prone to these threats. Oceans and Rivers contain huge Megadiversity ex -amphibians , pisces , corals and planktons. Each one will be directly damaged and the chain will result in continuous degradation of life and habitat. Economies are impacted too as we saw in recent oil spill in Russia in Norlinsk in Siberian region. This known as Nickel Capital of Russia. The whole province is under emergency. Now all the economic as well as social activities have been paused. Pisciculture and other related economic activities have become impossible due to the scenario.
