Now I know nothing about American Football and don't watch it at all, but some of those plays were passing the ball to someone a meter away? Is that just not a done thing? To someone naive, that just seems pretty simple? (I am in no way saying that Football is simple, just some of those 'amazing' plays)

If you believe you are among the child of the God, you need to get away from being a sport fan, athlete, or competitor. The words of God said friendship with the world is enmity towards the Lord God. When you become a part of the world, you made yourself disqualified to enter the Kingdom of God.
The Lord God is holy. You cannot get into His presence unless you become as holy as Him. He built the country Israel and brought the Law of Moses, prophets, and Lord Jesus with His hope the world can learn His holiness. But the people always found ways to stay away from the path of God. Worldly way of life, family, friends, religions, educations, governments, businesses, culture, and tradition hinder them to get close to God.
This world has been ordained to be destroyed and replaced with the Kingdom of God because it does not follow the laws and commandments of God. Thus, it is filthy rag and there is nothing good about it except to burn in hell. The Lord God allowed it to exist for a short time as a chance for the people to look for Him and grope with Him. The time is up, Lord Jesus is now rebuilding this the world by using fire to remove all things and everyone who are offensive to His Kingdom. These calamities will get worse as the time gets closer to the end of the world. If you want to be a part of His Kingdom, you need to come out from serving the world or being lukewarm.
Acts 17 And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings, so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring.’ Therefore, since we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Divine Nature is like gold or silver or stone, something shaped by art and man’s devising.
