I am so glad someone is bringing attention to this. I used to make 56,000 a year. It’s been reduced to 32,000 and no benefits, no insurance, nothing. I do Home Health too. I’m a licensed PTA. After taking out expenses, time spent driving, doing documentation, and taking out taxes…..I bring home 28,000 . Now without a job due to pandemic & I am denied unemployment. Why? I don’t know Because I can’t get a real person on the phone and no one answers my emails. I’ve cared for people in their homes for 17 years. It’s backbreaking work but very rewarding. But I am making less now than I was in 1999. Something has got to change or we will not have any healthcare workers to take care of us when we get old!

It’s known that cna, at least here in ny, make minimum wage. Let me start off my saying I BEGAN as a CNA. They are not paid high wages for various reasons and yes they do amazing work. But come on now..30 years?? I honestly don’t know how she does it. She 100% could have gone to or gone back to nursing school, I have classmates that are in worse positions than her. A CNA doesn’t make big money because it’s not a long term job, a CNA is also not a technician it’s a few months program in most states. CNA is a job to learn the skills and move on, you cannot make a living on their pay that is well known. Most CNAs are using it as experience or do it before they get into nursing school, that’s somewhat what I did. I am a pharmacy tech now and I make min wage too! I am struggling but I am in an ABSN program. There’s no excuse and after a while you cannot blame the system. I was with her until she said 30 years …WOW.
If ALL CNA’s strike it would be so sad for the patients yet necessary for the companies and industry to fix the issue. If I had a home health company my CNA’s would make 17-20 period and raises will definitely be enough to help them get more. They don’t want to increase LPN/ LVN either because then they have to increase nurses who still make a lot of money .
I have always said this. There is no way a CNA should get paid what they make…. They clean up bodily fluids and deal with too much…. These people truly take care of people from the heart because they don’t make enough to do it for pay
Teachers also receive food stamps in some states. We also buy supplies for our classrooms just to do our jobs, in EVERY school in the country. Our nation’s priorities are DEFINITELY basackwards. I was paid 10 dollars an hour as a nurses aide and I worked 16 hour shifts 50 hours a week. I had my yearly raise come up and I got 21 cents. I was trained for 3 days and was giving morphine and narcotics with in the first week of employment. I was 22 and worked at a bakery before that…
Just now they remember to talk about the situation of the millions of CNAs in this country? Some are making $9 per hour, getting injured at work and receiving NO medical insurance. I wish CNAs could unionize and demand for better wages and full benefits just like nurses.
Sis! If you can, go to nursing school and get your RN license. You could easily get a management position in assisted living or nursing home and make 2x the amount you're making. What a beautiful soul !?❤

These types of caring professions never get appropriate pay. When I was working at a homeless shelter I made 13usd an hour.
