Nations produce "crops" of people just like farmers – it just takes longer. It takes 25+ years of education to produce a good research scientist. 25 years ago the U.S. had SIX TIMES the number of graduate students as China. 2016 STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) graduates: America 568,000 China 4,700,000 India 2,600,000 Unfortunately – America has been using education/healthcare to keep control away from minorities. They'd rather incarcerate than educate. I'm afraid America's prejudice and short term greed made U.S. miss out on the BEST CAPITAL INVESTMENT any nation can make… Our greatest national resource is our own people and we failed to invest in them. Instead – Citizens United "dark-money" turned America into a corporate oligarchy like Russia. Like Russia – religious leaders are in bed with politicians to make U.S. "anti-science" for their own agendas (even though Christ defined himself as "truth" and Satan as a "great deceiver"). As a scientist I know all the "gung-ho" patriotism in the world won't make up for better technology (see Battle of the Somme), I hope I'm wrong, but the historical data doesn't look good for U.S. (Look at our balance sheet and how much of our debt they own…)
