I never realized how socialist Taliesin is. I guess it makes sense him being European. I just hope one day he understands that the world is not a perfect place and business is a reflection of that, companies need, and SHOULD have the ability to work in whatever way they see fit to achieve their goals. While the layoffs of employees sucks, its part of life, its a part of nature, and its how the power structure of the world works. I stopped playing WoW because I personally view the constant power creep of WoW to be degrading to the consumer. and I'm glad I quit. I moved the Elder Scrolls Online where power creep is not nearly as much of an issue and level caps on gear are not increased, I can take a break from the game and come back at the same strength I was at any time. It just goes to show that the consumer is the one who truly has the power in the relationship. I dont care about the employees, they took a job, they assumed a risk, they performed, and now they aren't needed. The employees did not own the company, and without a company's ability to employ at will smaller companies cannot compete and major companies can't move forward and progress in the ways they see fit. re: shit tier employment system. Nailed it my good sir. I was laid off a little over a year ago. why? because the company went first bankrupt, then was purchased. Having some health complications isn't exactly helping my cause. However you nailed it. It is my experience the US hiring and training system is total shit. Two months in a row I have purpously turned down several jobs. Why? No on the job training, what's ADA (for depression and autism spectrum) . One ISP made me a offer. (10.50 to start, and that's fucking pathetic right their). It got worse. the Texax. Arizon and New Mexico areas were having record setting snow storms for Feb at the time of my offer: No remote interviews for saftey reasons since I litteraly coudn't physically get the car up their physical road safley due to ice on their HQ drivewways, they also told me: no they don't do on the job training, and no they don't have much for accomidations that'd be all on me. A friend told me right off: dude you so don't want to work at that kind of company! I'm sooo glad I took her advise: the next day? "we're so glade you put the energy into contacting us and (oh bullshit you know who you want to hire)" I (weirdly) mostly love some forms of customer support because I'm a people person. But I also reasonably expect to be walked through how that particular company or agency does it. My good sir that is indeed part of the problem. Because ageism is a thing (anyone over 30 is looked down on because…reasons?) etc etc so yeah facing all that makes it a fucking pain in the ass for buger all. And that's part of the bullshit. On the gaming side: Seira litterally invented and then turned into Double Fine and TelTale games some of you might have played. SUN's CEO quite mere months before the Oracle and MS guy out. a now little known company LightHouse industries same story. The concern here is: Morhain quit. Metzen quit before morhain, well before that GregStreet. Rob Pordu THE head of the Studio part of the Studio as in literally writing the LUA scripts that some don't even think about till there addons explode. Some of those scripts are responsable for triggering events such as phases in boss fights, looking up RNG numbers and a ton of other things., models-some did live captures like for Sylvy, and Bain, to turn into models (the computer kind). are all gone, notice how their's basically no new code, plot or much new to the game after MOP? ever wonder why? No actual studio. As far as I know activision doesn't own many actual studios, possible for their destiny, COD franchises, maybie for one or two other IP's. Otherwise they generally don't know how to or just don't want to learn a companies API's to make even bugfixes. Not being for collectivism doesn't mean you don't ever believe in creating groups or teamwork. It means that the group as a whole doesn't matter more than the individuals that make it up. Because, you know…groups are just collections of individuals that don't actually exist independantly by themselves.

As something of an anti-SJW curmudgeon myself, I recognize the ease with which people fall into "us vs them" camps, whether being accused or making accusations. I don't live in the "trenches" of the culture war, though, and I don't like it when I feel caught in the middle of a fight over something like, say, Captain Marvel. (Just saw it btw, bad and forgettable but not some sort of high crime against nerddom, just an underwhelming slog being coopted by people on "both sides" to push agendas.)
And the sad thing is, I miss playing WoW, but every opportunity I have to launch the launcher, I just haven't lately. I hope those who lost their jobs land on their feet, and I hope that the passion of developers continues to fix problems and evolve the game into something that might win us fans back.
