What's your experience with the healthcare system in your country? Did you receive treatment you needed or was it denied because you couldn't afford it?
I think that it will be easier of the US to transition into a Swiss or Singaporean healthcare system compared to a single-payer healthcare system. There are too many idiots here that will cry "socialism" if we even try to move to a single-payer healthcare system, even though it is not socialist at all and it is beneficial for everyone. Also, Switzerland and Singapore also have amazing outcomes with low costs and universal coverage.
I don't understand why people think that's a socialist or communist thing, healthcare is a basic human right, and for those talking about a lot of taxes or bad quality, go and visit germany
America's military budget is like 600bn. Like this is crazy…. And having to pay for health? Jesus, isn't health a priority for citizens? US is such a superficial country.
Diabetes IS a greatly avoidable disease. And while I also don't like the cost of the U.S. health care system (as someone with a chronic illness), I have experienced the "free" health care in one of the mentioned countries – many times – and the difference in quality showed me that you get what you pay for. Also: NOTHING is really "free".
Bottom line is that health care is a service, not a right. And services cost money. I like "free stuff" as much as the next guy, but realistically I don't expect the shop to fix my car for free, because I rely on it…
Yo ok but if you did indeed refuse treatment while you are injured (say with a broken leg) would you be forcing all the doctors in the hospital to break the oaths?
I am gobsmacked! I knew healthcare was costly in the US but not THAT costly. 2 years ago, after coming home from Thailand, I contracted an infection in my leg which required immediate surgery. Spent 4 days in hospital and had a nurse visit me at home after I was discharged to change my dressing daily for 3 weeks. I was also given supply to change my dressing for a further month. I'm talking scissors, dressing, saline solution, wipes, tweezers and disposable injector to last me a month. Didn't pay a single cent. I'm now thinking if I had been in America, I would probably go bankrupt too.
My jaw was dislocated by yawning. I went to ER. It took a doctor 10 seconds to put it back. I didn't use a drop of any pain meds. I was charged $1500.oo. Then I filled a form saying that I was not able to pay, then later I paid $750.oo.
I can't believe this is how it works in USA ?here's me complaining about my $15 docs appointment and free prescription drugs in NZ… Kids are free, and if you genuinely can't afford $15,they just let u go…. I can't deal. Poor usa?
Very interesting to read the comments. I can understand the point of American citizens, that health care here in Europe isn't really for free. Yes we pay it by taxes and yes we pay when we don't need it. But you have to see our point, too. In fact we don't need to care any more about calling the ambulance or going to the doctor. It's absolutely fatal to think health care is luxury. Health care is for everyone. That's why there is the hippocratic oath. I have no Problem to spend a bit of my salary to be sure. And in addition people who can't afford health care are sure too. That's called solidarity and this is really important for a society! Edit: It is one reason, why Germany wasn't as effected by the Corona virus as other Countries.
My country Nepal is one of the most underdeveloped countries in the world. But the doctors are very well qualified and the bill is only 1/10th of USA. I wonder if USA will ever get a president or a health minister who can understand the value of health care.
I got in a car accident, it wasn’t major , and I went to the Doctor two days later. For an hour with no tests, and only a simple question and some pressure points testing, $ 1,600
Rest of Developed World: Has Free Affordable Healthcare American Liberals: We should follow them, healthcare is a right of the people American Conservatives: COMMUNISM I TELL YOU COMMUNISM Actual Communist: What are people?
The point is, the reason why we can’t have affordable healthcare because we have uneducated Conservatives. Until than. America will remain a Oligarchy
In the UK there is an organisation called The NHS (The National Health Service) . You might have heard about it You Americans go on how great Your country is, if it is that great how come it has nothing like this.
Like seriously? You have to pay for ambulance? That's RIDICULOUS. I live in a 3rd world country and still got almost top to bottom free healthcare. No waiting in case of emergency. Best specialists available in the hospital by my side anytime I want.
What's your experience with the healthcare system in your country? Did you receive treatment you needed or was it denied because you couldn't afford it?

imagine working 5/12 months of the year for the government . Im glad I live in the USA

America: has one of the worst Healthcare systems in the world
Me (lives in Germany): laughs while sipping on my Weißbier
US healthcare A fcking disaster
Done
"Send him to the intensive I dont care unit" ??
If I ever became US president, free healthcare would be a priority.
I still don't understand why they don't adopt a fonctionnal healthcare system like in other countries.
Healthcare is a necessity and basic right of all human beings, not a privilege or luxury.

The US has a money stealing system…. Wallet care you can say…. That is not healthcare.
USA can save trillions of dollars if they stop bombing and invading other countries and put that money on healthcare.
Everyone knows how America’s healthcare system works!
It doesn’t.
