My heart really goes out to the comedian. He doesn't deserve what happened to him. To me, he seems like a good man. If he was really a cynic he would never have collapsed; he just would have rolled with the punches. I'd like to reach out and give the guy a hug.
This film is a great interpretation of those who cannot help but find solace and despair in the void of nothingness, The Comedian will never understand the world, and the world will never understand him.

Mostly just Gregg wandering around the desert of southern California, visiting roadside attractions (the Cabazon dinosaurs being conspicuously absent) and being increasingly douchier to everyone he meets, until [spoilers] he has a nervous breakdown at Tim's birthday party.]
