This video deals with an often overlooked episode in history, when Soviet union pilots and SAM system crews fought the Israeli pilots. It happened in Egypt, …
I enjoyed every minute of that I love military history and yet I knew nothing of the war of attrition between Egypt and Israel fascinating stuff keep up the good work
You, as Europeans, are hypocrites who impose sanctions on Iran and continue to shout because they will possess a nuclear weapon while Israel helps you secretly and make it possess a nuclear. You are fake and I am an Egyptian and against Iran because they are bloody and I do not like your dualism and by the way I am in favor of peace with Israel and I love it as a developed country and I wish more cooperation between it and Egypt despite the Seeing a lot of their pages, Lina, long live peace
How about the secret war between the US and Israel, or has everyone forgotten that the Israelis did their best to sink a US Navy warship, and killed a lot of sailors? And the Navy wasn't allowed to defend itself. How about that one?
I love how the comments has so much bitterness between the Israelis and Arabs. You'd think after getting your ass kicked multiple times the Arab States would back off from trying to fuck with Israel. Le shrug
we can also say when Egypt fought 40000 Americans and some of them captured in the sinai Peninsula end the Golan Heights especially in the end of Yom Kippur
Does anybody who’s well informed want to share anything they know about prior U.S. involvement with Israel? Or just generally the (lesser known) sociopolitical scene regarding Israel at the time? I’m just trying to understand the causes behind the Soviet’s actions here. Israel obviously didn’t present a threat to the Soviets, but perhaps Israel was seen as a non-NATO threat to Soviet-influenced (Arab) regions? Was Israel seen as a potential future NATO ally? I don’t want to make any presumptions, and just want to get a more objective lay of the land here. If you can include any sources with what you say that’d be greatly appreciated, especially if it isn’t easily-found “common knowledge”. Thanks for your input!
The War of Attrition ground up a lot of Israeli kids, as well as Egyptian men and material. It was a second major humiliation for Egypt, and It led directly to the 3 week Yom Kippur war. It also led to a major speedup in the Israeli nuclear program. President Nixon, no great friend of the Jews made the comment during Yom Kippur, "Let them bleed a little" before we sent aid. It is highly likely that Golda Meir came close to ordering either a true nuclear attack on Cairo, or at least a dirty bomb attack, with the very real potential of a second Holocaust in the making. In the end, bloodied badly, Israel under Ariel Sharon crossed the Suez, and occupied a significant chunk of eastern Egypt. The Suez Canal came under Israeli jurisdiction. This did not go over too well with anyone. Fast forward a few years. Israel's Mossad learned of an assassination plot against Anwar Sadat. The question arose, let the bastard get killed, or do we, Israel inform him. And if so, how? No one likes to talk about it, but Moshe Dayan, the eye patch general of the 6 Day War went on a secret mission to Morocco and informed the Egyptian authorities of the plot to kill Sadat. The rest is history. Sadat realized it wasn't the Israelis who wanted to kill him, but his own beloved Muslim Brotherhood. The plot was stopped. There was diplomatic dancing that culminated in Sadat's flight to Israel and his speech before the Israeli Knesset. Egypt made peace. Eventually Jordan made peace. Lebanon was supposed to follow, but… Today the Gulf Emirates are tacitly acknowledging Israel's right to exist. Mercy medical flights with Emirati markings are going from Dubai into Tel Aviv with supplies for the "Palestinians". It isn't one big happy family, as it should be, but it isn't war either.
The comment section is overrun by the Hasbara Trolls from left to right I would be very careful what you read and how you interpret it do your own skeptical research and find out the facts for yourself and don't listen to those Trolls who spread lies online in favor of Israel…….
Damn the comments are fucking amazing, you have to be really special to ignore facts just because you have a different religion and ignore the fact this is accepted history by pretty much anyone. Yet people still think the Israeli lost this despite going for a while against the 2 super power of the time?
Typical Arab commenter: "You people, get your facts right! <follows with a lie>"p.s. Also writes about another war than the one described, because the hell with facts, he has an agenda to plug.
Attack

Your reasoning way is highly obtuse and uncorrect.

In short: it was called "Operation Rimon 20". Plus, the Soviet pilot commander, Nikolai Yurchenko was killed during the fight.
