A 76-year-old Loxahatchee man was killed when a truck traveling eastbound on Northlake Blvd. in The Acreage drifted into his lane causing a two-car collision Thursday afternoon, according to a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s report.

Thomas Conroy, a passenger in a Honda Accord driven by Penni Conroy, 58, was killed in the crash. Penni Conroy, in serious condition at St. Mary’s Medical Center, wasn’t able to avoid a Dodge Ram driven by West Palm Beach’s Karmela Roy, 36, who suffered minor injuries.

PBSO is investigating whether Roy was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Matthew Kennedy, 20, who lives in a house nearby said he heard the crash from inside his home.

“I was sitting just on the couch and I heard just a loud (crash). It sounded like an accident, it was real loud,” Kennedy said.

Kennedy said he did not hear any tires screeching before the crash and he wasn’t whether the drivers had time to try to stop.

“It’s terrible,” he said, as he and others surveyed the wreckage from a distance away.
