West Palm police: Boy shot in neck, rushed to hospital as people in two cars fire at each other

A 12-year-old boy caught in the crossfire of a shoot-out along a major West Palm Beach thoroughfare Sunday morning has been taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center, city police said.

Shortly before noon, the occupants of two cars began shooting at each other while traveling in the 400 block of Congress Avenue near Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard, said Capt. Dave Bernhardt, West Palm Beach police spokesman.

“The 12-year-old that was hit was a bystander,” Bernhardt said. He had been riding his bicycle at the time of the shooting, Bernhardt said.

The boy’s injury is not considered life threatening, police said.
