Two men were charged with child abuse after allegedly conducting a drug deal in a car with two kids inside, according to Greenacres Police.

Javon Jackson, a 24-year-old Lantana resident, was arrested Thursday. He also faces two counts of possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. He is being held in the county jail without bond.

According to the arrest report, police saw Jackson, who was holding a baby, exit a car near a Walgreens as the driver entered another car. Police suspected a drug deal and when they identified themselves, the driver of the second car backed up, forcing the officers to jump out of the way.

The second car then crashed into an unmarked police car and fled the parking lot, according to the report.

Officers found two children, one 7 months old and the other 2 years old, sitting in the back seat Jackson exited. There was a semi-automatic pistol sticking out of the car’s center console, according to the report.

As police removed the gun, Jackson told police, “This isn’t my car; the gun is the driver’s, and he has a gun license!” Police noted in the report that the car smelled very strongly of marijuana.

Police also found a loaded rifle, 30 additional bullets, a bottle of Codiene syrup, a Xanax and Oxycodone prescription, four painkiller tabs, 60 Xanax pills and 29 Doc-Q-Lave pills in the car, according to the report.

Jackson was found to more than $10,000 in cash in his pocket, which police believe he earned in drug deals.

He identified the car’s driver as his friend Cletis Fobbs, 29. An attorney representing Fobbs called police and said that Thursday that Fobbs was planning to turn himself in.

According to the report, Jackson was convicted of possession of a controlled substance in 2011.

Fobbs, a Riviera Beach resident, faces numerous charges, including two counts of child abuse, three counts of assault and one count of resisting arrest. He is also being held in jail without bond.
