Palm Beach Lakes High student arrested in home invasion robbery

A 17-year-old Palm Beach Lakes High School student is facing charges as an adult in connection to a home invasion robbery in which the thieves stole around 25 pairs of Nike Air Jordan sneakers, according to an arrest report made public Tuesday.

When Alexander D. Frierson was questioned by a Palm Beach County sheriff’s detectives about the robbery, he claimed to be a victim and not one of the perpetrators.

But Frierson’s story had a major hole in it. The teenager was wearing a pair of the stolen sneakers while he spoke to the detective, the report said.

Frierson is facing charges of burglary with assault or battery, robbery with a firearm and false imprisonment. He is being held in the Palm Beach County Jail late Tuesday in lieu of $30,000 bail.

The home invasion took place Oct. 11 on Savoy Lane in suburban West Palm Beach, west of Military Trail and south of Shenandoah Road. A boy in the home heard a knock on the door and recognized the visitor as “Philly,” which is the nickname used by Frierson, the report said. Frierson asked the boy if he could come inside to charge his cellphone. When the boy opened the door, Frierson and two masked men stormed into the house.

One man brandished an automatic handgun that he held to the victim’s head before the three home-invaders searched the home, the report said. Aside from the sneakers, the thieves took two computer laptops, two cellphones and cash. The victim said the sneakers, which belonged to him and his brother, were worth between $3,000 and $4,000 combined.

Detectives went to Palm Beach Lakes High School to speak with Frierson on Oct. 11. Frierson admitted being in the victim’s house but said he was also a victim and said he was held at gunpoint during the robbery, the report said.

Frierson told detectives that as he was running away from the home, he grabbed three boxes of sneakers.

“Frierson advised the shoes he was wearing during the interview were one of the three taken pairs,” the report said.
